Having graduated in metallurgical engineering, Mr. Asanovic worked for 10 years at the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism: as an environmental inspector between 2001 and 2004, then senior advisor from 2004 to 2010. He has been assistant director at the Environmental Protection Agency since its establishment in 2009. As head of the Department for the Issuing of Permits within the agency, he has key competences in the field of the enforcement of environmental legislation. He also works on developing policies and other programmes for government and inter-government bodies.

Other roles and duties include managing administrative procedures in the Department for the Issuing of Permits and coordinating and organising the work of its employees; coordinating the Industrial Pollution Group within Montenegro's negotiation team in the EU accession process; preparing laws, bylaws and other acts in the field of environment; acting as national focal point for the Basel Convention; and acting as primary contact point for the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET).
